'Ello Govna!

A couple of weeks ago I had a Friday off and we were looking for something to do. One of my friends at school suggested taking the ferry out to Governor's Island and spending the day there. The island is about 1km off the southern tip of Manhattan and was actually the first place the original Dutch settlers landed when they claimed the land for the Netherlands. Now it's an empty military base that is open to the public on weekends in the summer for picnics and bike riding.

We took the ferry from the tip of Manhattan and rented bikes. I think it had been over 3 years since I'd been on a bike, so that, combined with having Bridget on the back took some getting used to. We biked around the island and I don't think Bridget liked it all that much because her helmet kept falling down into her eyes and even when she could see she was getting a great view of my back.

Jersey on the left, New York on the right, Kate and the Hudson River
This was the commanding officer's house that was built in the 1700s. You actually don't see many buildings that old in NYC, they traded their history for commerce.

We walked back to the WTC PATH station and took the scenic route past the Wall St. bull.
B really wanted to walk around so we let her play underneath the bull. We had to take the picture of it from the side because the view from the back is not exactly blog appropriate.

Our time here is ticking down so our goal for this coming year is to finish our NY "bucket list" and get pics of B at all of the classic NY sights so stay tuned.

Was that Kat Hudson on the right or Kate and the Hudson on the right?

We are looking forward to reports of more adventures.
