Canada's Ocean Playground

After picking up my mom (Grandma Anne) in Halifax we drove down to Peggy's Cove. We didn't really know what there was to see or do there but decided we had to go just because it is famous and one of the few places we had actually heard of before we went on this trip. It turned out to be really beautiful and totally worth a visit.

We then drove back to Halifax and spent the afternoon walking around the Citadel, which is an old fort on a hill in the middle of the city. It was really interesting to learn about the history of Halifax and watch the changing of the guards. We learned in Williamsburg that B absolutely hates cannon/gun fire and this time was no exception. She started crying at the first gunshot and I had to keep her in the gift shop for the entire "show".

The next day we drove to Cape Breton to drive the Cabot Trail. Cape Breton is so gorgeous. We just stopped at random to take pictures because the entire drive up the western coast is beautiful. We ate lunch at the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre and were treated to some excellent fiddle and guitar music while we ate. The fiddle player was only about 10 years old but he was wonderful.

We spent the night in Cheticamp, our first stop on the Cabot Trail, and walked down to the beach from the little cabin we rented for the night. Every place we stopped at was just so beautiful and peaceful it made us want to live there forever in one of the little houses overlooking the water. We also enjoyed the night life and dragged B to a late lobster dinner with some fabulous live Acadian music. I of course did not order the lobster like Jason and my mom did but I did try some fish cakes and it was probably one of my favourite meals of the entire vacation.

Last summer Melissa Deb and I also had lunch at the Celtic Interpretive Centre and spent the night at Cheticamp. It was at Cheticamp that we went whale watching. Cape Breton is a great place. It looks like you had great weather.
